Expert lecture delivered by Gabriela Lenarczyk at scientific conference „Protection of health data in the realm of new technologies”
The Student Scientific Organization for Medical Law affiliated to the Jagiellonian University in Kraków organized its sixth national scientific conference on 12 April 2019.
The event was dedicated to the issue of protection of health data in the context of new technologies. Gabriela Lenarczyk from the BFP law firm delivered a lecture titled “Direct-to-consumer genetic tests in Poland – Europe’s Wild West” on the protection of genetic data in their processing for the purposes of conducting DTC genetic tests. Speakers at the conference included the director of IT team at the Personal Data Protection Office – an expert in the field of security of data processing and the safety of information as well as employees of the Jagiellonian University – dr hab. Marta Romańska, dr hab. Bogdan Fischer and dr Tomasz Sroka. During the event, a wide debate sparked on the topic of doctor-patient confidentiality and its new dimension in the realm of new technologies in healthcare. The Polish Ombudsman – honorary patron of the event – emphasized that the awareness of the scope of personal data protection is particularly important in a situation where our sensitive data relating to health is transferred to hospitals and medical entities.
