This year’s annual PEOPIL (Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers) conference was held in France. The meetings and sessions took place in the beautiful interiors of the Parisian society “l'Union interalliée” and Les Salons at Avenue Hoche, in the heart of Paris.
The programme included lectures very useful for practice, such as a panel of representatives from Greece (Silina Pavlakis), Spain (Prof Miquel Martin Casals), France (Jean-Pierre Bellecave), the Netherlands (John Beer) and Germany (Wolfgang Frese), which analysed national legislations concerning redress following the death of a close relative in each of the countries.
Silvio Riesen and Ulrich Kurmann of Switzerland presented issues related with liability for sports injuries in professional sport. The “cherry on the top” was a presentation delivered with bravado by Frank Benham of France on the topic “The impact on sexual life as head of claim – interruption of sexual life/sexual practice as a result of the accident/personal injury suffered”.
Among attendees were numerous PEOPIL members from all over Europe and also guests from the United States: among them Frederic N. Halstrom i Anthony Tarricone, whose lecture on the methods of obtaining evidence from US citizens aroused great interest of lawyers that represent Americans who sustained injuries in Europe or Europeans who sustained an accident in the US – such as Atty. Jolanta Budzowska.
