The case concerned a delay in the proper diagnosis of a gastrointestinal perforation, despite the occurrence of typical symptoms, as well as the failure to transfuse blood platelets despite very low levels, which further delayed necessary surgical treatment. The loss of time was a key factor in respect of the final outcome of the treatment, court experts said.
The parents of the child were awarded a total sum of 160.000 PLN as bereavement damages (redress). The judgment is not yet in force.
